Discovering Your Hobbies

Maybe it's been so long since you slowed down enough to have spare time that you don't even know what you'd do with it if you were given the opportunity.
I can remember a time, a very rare occasion, when my son was just a baby. My husband had taken him out and I was home from work early. This was extremely rare. I had the house to myself. I could do anything I wanted, there wasn't anything I "had" to do. This was free time! I was so overwhelmed by this gift of free time that hadn't happened in so long I was lost. I couldn't remember what my hobbies really were. I didn't have a creative project I had been working on. I wasn't in the middle of a good book. I did not know what to do with myself. I missed my family, but I was excited for the time alone! To do whatever I wanted! Yay!
You know what I ended up doing....?!
Wandering the house not knowing what to do. That's the very sad truth. It had been so long since I was able to take time to relax, or take time to do something different, something just for fun on my own that I didn't know what do.
Somewhere between being a kid and adulthood I had lost my hobbies. I guess I got busy with work, friends, school, more work and being a mom that I forgot what I liked to do. I think this happens to all of us to some extent as we grow up.
I learned something that day after wandering around. You should take time to remember what it was you did for fun as a kid. Try it again now. It's likely you still enjoy some of the same things.
That, and if you end up with some free time... trust me you want to make good use of it!
How many hobbies do you have? More importantly when was the last time you did them?
