When you make slowing down intentional, it allows you to see more. When you are more relaxed and you are not rushed, you are able to see the beauty around you. You notice more. You can stop for a minute and look at the little details in life.
I challenge you the next time you go for a walk to look at all the little things you would normal walk by without a second thought. There may be an idea or inspiration that you have never seen before. A thought you never allowed yourself to have because you were too busy and focused on running to the next thing. Try it.
Notice the details.
See the texture of the tree trunk. Watch the way the leaves curl in the wind. Smell the fresh air. Look at the clouds floating by. Listen to the little birds sweet song.
Focusing on the little things helps us to live in the moment and gives us a great appreciation for things in life.
You can do this throughout your day, where ever you are.
Maybe you're a stay at home mom or dad. Maybe you've had no sleep and you're exhausted. Pay attention to the sweet little baby hands wrapped around an object. Find the cute facial expression beneath the huge mess of food. Feel the warmth of the sweet cuddles. Hear the cries and know it's a beautiful sound (that will only last a short while, they grow up so fast)
Maybe you work in an office. It feels like it's day in day out, the same thing again and again. Smell the fresh air as you walk in from your car. Laugh with a co-worker. Enjoy the warmth of your coffee cup as you take a sip. Embrace the satisfaction of crossing of that thing from your to do list.
Maybe you work in a retail environment or service industry. Listen to the music that's playing. Watch all the wonderful people going about their day around you. Take pride in the job you just finished.
Maybe you're an artist and you love to paint. Watch how the colours blend together. Notice the detail in the brush strokes. Listen to the swish of the water as you clean your brush and move onto the next colour.
Maybe you're a student, stuck in class, counting down the hours until your next break or the end of the day. Embrace what you are learning, try to fully understand it. Do your very best and feel satisfied no matter what your grade. Notice the sun shining in the window. Feel the warmth of the class room as you watch the rain falling outside. Laugh with your friends as you all learn together.
There are a million little things that we let go by unnoticed every day. Try to be more aware of what they are in your everyday life.
Take the time to slow down and appreciate the details, even when life feels busy. Be grateful for the things that may not seem like a big deal. Look for the positive in the things that annoy you or cause you stress.
I challenge you to make it a habit and see what you can see. You will become more relaxed when you look closely at the beauty in the life around you.
